Cast In the 1950's American journalist, former war correspondent and Miami Herald staff writer, ED MEYERS writes a fan letter to his childhood hero, ERNEST HEMINGWAY explaining his profound literary influence on Ed's life path. Hemingway responds to Ed's letter and they soon become friends. With Ed leaving his new girlfriend DEBBIE HUNT behind in Miami, he travels to Cuba to the Finca La Vigia for visits with Hemingway, his 4th wife Mary Welsh Hemingway and Hemingway’s colorful friends that hung out with him at the house during that period. During his stays at Hemingway's house, Ed gets to know ‘Papa’ like the father he never had and Ernest teaches Ed valuable lessons to last a lifetime. Ed gets glimpses into the literary struggles of the aging writer, his bouts of depression, binge drinking and witnesses Hemingway’s growing paranoia resulting from his public hostility with J.Edgar Hoover and the FBI's plot to bury him as a Communist sympathizer. After witnessing the tumultuous and emotionally charged relationship between Ernest and Mary, Ed realizes how important it is to maintain his relationship with Debbie and returns home to eventually start a family with her.
